How Profiter began
EARLY STAGE
During the Covid years, drug shortages became a global problem. Osvaldo and Maurizio met and began working on the inventory optimisation project that today is Profiter. Alex joined soon after — vision and ideals meeting at an AI event — bringing a development boost that launched Profiter's earliest model.
STARTUP STAGE
Bari, 2021: Profiter came to life within the vibrant ecosystem of the Puglia region. The company quickly built a network of collaborators and rode the wave of enthusiasm that characterises the south of Italy. There, where the spirit of innovation thrives, the first partners and investors arrived, including Michele Palumbo, former Head of Supply Chain at Bayer.
ACCELERATION
California, 2023: through Berkeley SkyDeck's globally renowned programme, a new frontier of US-style innovation opened up in Europe. After six months on the SkyDeck Milano programme, Profiter brought home significant results on Italian soil. The perspective shifted towards thinking big, and the direction turned to international markets.
MATURITY STAGE
After the first pilots and field validations, the startup matured into a team of industry veterans. Marco Casadei — already an entrepreneur alongside the co-founders, and a PhD researcher in AI since the earliest days of the technology — took on technical leadership. Michele Palumbo moved from pointing the way to operational Advisor, helping Profiter, together with the co-founders, tackle the deepest problems of the life science supply chain.
Today CURIO, Profiter's vertical AI platform, works every day on real data from companies such as Bayer, farmaè, DOC Farmaceutici and VIM. Three veterans of tech, AI and supply chain, with the ambition to renew the pharmaceutical chain and the tools to do it.

Our head office is in Bari and we have a secondary operational hub in Milan, but we work distributed across several countries. Profiter is an AI-FIRST startup where agents work alongside people to run workflows every day. Remote working lets us broaden our knowledge and skills through the constant dialogue that keeps us aligned on the work and closer as people. Our way of doing business is added value: it creates new opportunities and lets us collaborate with quality professionals wherever they are.
The face of Profiter
"Poetry is what happens when nothing else can"
Osvaldo Mauro began his career in e-commerce as Content Manager at lastminute.com in the late 1990s, later contributing to the growth of its Italian branch. He went on to become a serial entrepreneur, founding four startups, three of which were successfully sold, including Bôtelier.ai, Best Holiday (France) and AdsHotel (exit to HotelBeds). Since 2016 he has been a pioneer in artificial intelligence applied to SaaS, anticipating where the sector was heading. He is currently co-founder of Profiter.

Marco Casadei leads Profiter's technology. With a PhD in Theoretical Physics, he has worked on artificial intelligence since applying it to industry was still a laboratory subject rather than a conference topic. An entrepreneur before a researcher, he has already brought technology ventures to market alongside the co-founders. At Profiter he turns research into product: models that planners can understand, challenge and use every day. Because for him an algorithm is only worth something if someone on the floor trusts it.
